A guided exploration of consultation and consent in natural resource management in principle and practice.

This resource explores:

  • principles of consultation and consent in natural resource management
  • consultation and consent at the intersection of Indigenous Peoples’ rights and the energy transition
  • dynamics of regulatory processes, alliances, strategic action, and access to remedy.

Each section includes case examples from the last two years from a range of industries and locations, and questions for group discussion or personal reflection.

A further 200+ case examples are compiled in a database for further exploration.

The resource is designed for individuals engaged in various spheres of natural resource management – within government, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), civil society organisations (CSOs), business, or academia – who want to deepen their understanding of consultation and consent.

This resource is part of an initiative on community-smart consultation and consent supported by the BHP Foundation and implemented by Landesa, in partnership with RESOLVE, Conservation International, and the Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining at The University of Queensland.
